TRAVELLERS came from near and afar in support for the biennial Wandoan Camel Races to raise funds for the all-important Wandoan Kindergarten.

Event coordinator Hope Powne said thousands of revellers descended on Wandoan to join in the festivities of the Camel Races and in the process raised tens of thousands of dollars.

This money will help fund the Wandoan Kindergarten’s operations, ensuring the district’s children have access to quality early learning resources, equipment, and educators.

“The event wouldn’t have been possible without the countless hours put in by both the committee and community members, and the generosity of sponsors,” Powne said.

“Local Wandoan volunteers combined their efforts to volunteer more than 300 hours to support the success of the Camel Races and in the process, raise vital funds for the Kindergarten.

“I think I speak for all the Kindy when I say I was blown away by the way the local community supported the event.”

Senex’s Spring Soiree in the VIP Marquee proved popular with punters once again with all the tickets snapped up and sold in record time.

Senex community relations manager Trevor Robertson said Senex was delighted to support the Wandoan Kindergarten for the third time by sponsoring the Camel Races VIP Marquee.

“The Wandoan Camel Races is an incredible event that unites the community and draws people from far and wide while stimulating the local economy,” he said.

“Senex is proud to support the communities that underpin our operations because we believe in the liveability, vitality and longevity of towns like Wandoan.

“Congratulations goes to everyone involved with the races, but I’d like to call out Hope Powne who coordinated the event alongside her part time work for Senex.”

Judging by the smiles in the crowd, it seemed everyone backed a winner with the Wandoan Kindergarten and the local community winning first place.
